WORD OF THE DAY
Pescatarian • \pess-kuh-TAIR-ee-un\ • noun - One whose diet includes fish but no meat
“Aaargh!” screamed Leticia through a full bite of her delicious salmon-burger. She was faced with a philosophical dilemma. As a die-hard opponent to beef production on climate change grounds, she thought she’d found the perfect solution by eschewing all things terran and becoming a pescatarian. She was not prepared for the wholesale harassment she received from her vegan friends as she gobbled her wild-caught salmon sandwich while crowded among her humus munching, hemp clothed, dam-breaching friends.

WORD OF THE DAY
Hobnob • \HAHB-nahb\ • verb - To associate familiarly
The raucous bar dropped into a stunned silence, in the distance a dog barked & the wind whistled through the open door, sweeping a pile of swirling fall leaves past the perfectly shod feet of the widget company’s CEO. What he intended as a pleasant night of hobnobbing with the “little people” began & ended with nervous glances, hushed whispers & muffled coughs.
From Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary - “Hob” & “nob” first came together in print in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, when Sir Toby Belch warned Viola (who was disguised as a man) that Sir Andrew wanted to duel. “Hob, nob is his word,” said Sir Toby, using “hob nob” to mean something like “hit or miss.” Sir Toby’s term is probably an alteration of “habnab,” a phrase that meant “to have or not have, however it may turn out.” After Shakespeare’s day, “hob” & “nob” became established in the phrases “to drink hob or nob” & “to drink hobnob,” which were used to mean “to drink alternately to each other.” Since “drinking hobnob” was generally done among friends, “hobnob” came to refer to congenial social interaction.

WORD OF THE DAY
Luculent • \LOO-kyuh-lunt\ • adjective - Clear in thought or expression: lucid
You could hear the eyeballs rolling back in the heads of the board members. The CEO chose the least luculent of his minions to communicate the proposed buy-out of the firm’s most virulent competitor. “Lassie,” he said, “this project is all yours.”

You could hear the eyeballs rolling back in the heads of the board members. The CEO chose the least luculent of his minions to communicate the proposed buy-out of the firm’s most virulent competitor. “Lassie,” he said, “this project is all yours.”

Sanguine • \SAN-gwinn\ • adjective – 1: bloodred 2a: consisting of or relating to blood b: bloodthirsty, sanguinary c: of the complexion: ruddy 3: having blood as the predominating bodily humor; also: having the bodily conformation & temperament held characteristic of such predominance & marked by sturdiness, high color, & cheerfulness 4: confident, optimistic
Santa Claus was a jolly old elf. His sanguine nature made all who were touched by his presence better people. That is, except when he thundered about “Christmas Creep”. “Those retailers need to extend their holiday season to the entire year,” he blustered. “Christmas isn’t just one day a year, it should be celebrated in our hearts every day!”
