WORD OF THE DAY

Green-Eyed Monster • \c’mon, you can pronounce this one!\ • noun - Jealousy, envy

Monica strode purposefully into the party, intent on one thing: cooling the passions of the “green-eyed monster” that had taken up residence in her belly after seeing her philandering boyfriend chatting up another woman at the office. A bucketful of well-aimed ice water lent by a sympathetic bartender descried a perfect arc across the dance floor; it’s deluge soaking the cheating boyfriend…cooling his misdirected passions, and satisfactorily killing the monster inside her.

Shakespeare - The evil Iago plants doubts in Othello’s mind about his wife’s faithfulness, while advising him:

“O, beware, my lord, of jealousy!
It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.”

(Othello, Act 3, Scene 3
