Barty emceed the “vegetable pageant” at the local pre-school. As the children started trooping onto the stage, he blared out their names in a grandiloquent, bombastic style, reminiscent of a bad sideshow barker. It wasn’t until the fifth child (a cauliflower, buy the way) that he noticed that all the children were crying and shrinking away from him…afraid of his next herbivorous outburst.
