WORD OF THE DAY

Parvenu • \PARR-vuh-noo\ • Noun - One who has recently or suddenly risen to an unaccustomed position of wealth or power and has not yet gained the prestige, dignity, or manner associated with it.

The manner in which we rise in prestige and power is relative. The new CEO may revel in their newfound position for a few weeks, and then settle into executive disassociation from the daily activities of lesser minions. Compare that to the person to whom has the authority to assign choice parking spots in the corporate garage. This position is bound to deliver to the newly minted parvenu the innate feeling of superiority over even those above their station. “You want a spot near the elevator? What’s it worth to you.” Silly rabbit: martinet is your title…hubris is your future.
