This
is not a word of the day but a rant about qualitative difference between Robbery
vs. Burglary. I’m looking at you Seattle media.
OK:
The basic difference between burglary and robbery is that burglary involves
entering somewhere by stealth with the intent to commit a crime. Robbery is
using force or fear to take personal property.
Robbery
is defined by Merriam Webster as: the act or practice of robbing; specifically: larceny from the person or presence of
another by violence or threat.
Burglary
is defined: as the act of breaking and entering a dwelling at night to commit a
felony (as theft); broadly: the entering
of a building with the intent to commit a crime.

LINKS & PAYWALL ADVISORY
All
the links in today’s news digest lead to current stories. Please note that some
media organizations update their web sites regularly, which may result in
broken links in the future.
Note
that as some newspapers migrate to a “paywall” system of access, some articles
may not be available without forking over some cold hard credit card cash. However,
some sites will allow a certain number of story accesses per month before
holding out their hand. Sorry if this is an inconvenience.
