WORD OF THE DAY

De Rigueur • \duh ree-GURR\ • Adjective - Prescribed or required by fashion, etiquette, or custom: proper.

During my student stint at The Evergreen State College, periodic potlucks were a wonderful way to sample various vegan/sustainable dietary offerings (including home-made beer, yum). A socially-conscious menu was considered de rigueur, but it was hard to achieve for those like me who lived a fair distance from the school. Therefore, Kentucky Fried Chicken was my standard offering. At every potluck I was berated for bringing “Corporate Meat” to the gathering.

I never went home with leftovers.
