WORD OF THE DAY

Assuage • \uh-SWAYJ\ • verb – *1: to lessen the intensity of (something that pains or distresses): ease 2: pacify, quiet 3: to put an end to by satisfying: appease, quench

“Now, Now,” purred the friendly, buxom matron to the new member of the household. “Most new boarders in my home take some time to get used to things here.” The new resident’s concerns were not assuaged by the comforting remarks. To begin with, a drawbridge to the house over a flaming moat filled with fireproof alligators was not a comforting sign. (With all due deference to Stephen Colbert’s border security plan)
