WORD OF THE DAY - Flashback

Palaver • \puh-LAV-er\ • noun - 1a: a long parley usually between persons of different cultures or levels of sophistication b: conference, discussion 2a: idle talk b: misleading or beguiling speech

The ethereal palaver between Moses, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Winston Churchill & Tiny Tim had its awkward moments. A breakthrough was achieved when Beethoven snatched Tiny Tim’s ukulele & played an exceptionally energetic version of “Born to be Wild”. God was not amused.

WORD OF THE DAY

This is not a word of the day but a rant about qualitative difference between Robbery vs. Burglary. I’m looking at you Seattle media.

OK: The basic difference between burglary and robbery is that burglary involves entering somewhere by stealth with the intent to commit a crime. Robbery is using force or fear to take personal property.

Robbery is defined by Merriam Webster as: the act or practice of robbing; specifically:  larceny from the person or presence of another by violence or threat.

Burglary is defined: as the act of breaking and entering a dwelling at night to commit a felony (as theft); broadly:  the entering of a building with the intent to commit a crime.

Get it? Got it? Good!

Interesting in that while some decry the state of affairs in the U-S, we’re STILL that “shining city on the hill” to nearly everyone else.

WORD OF THE DAY

Patriotic • \pay-TREE-ot-tick \ • Adjective - Having or showing great love & support for your country: having or showing patriotism.

Patriotic: It’s not just about blowing stuff up, folks.

“The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even although We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.”

- John Adams July 3, 1776 (the decree was presented July 2 and adopted July 4)
