The “Lord of the Rings” fanboys were aghast. It wasn’t until it was too late that they discovered an anti-Gandalf cabal of Saruman clones in center of their role playing community. “The White Wizard takes your game piece,” crowed the leader of the renegade group, as he reached forth his “Cheetos”-stained fingers to snatch the small, collector’s edition statue of the Gray Wizard from the game board.

WORD OF THE DAY

Gesamtkunstwerk • \guh-ZAHMT-koonst-verk\ • Noun - From the German. The total work of art, meaning the architect designs everything, soup to nuts.

The architect as artist had begun the meeting with a bright-eyed exuberance. His vision, his gesamtkunstwerk was to be the crowning achievement…a shining structure in the dusty, Midwest town that would be a beacon for students everywhere. By the time the design had been festooned with folk art and rustic, rural design suggestions…his vision had declined into a thousand square-mile collection of kitsch. ‘Great,’ he mused. ‘I started with the Guggenheim, and wound up with Green Acres.’
